Pharmacology of Diindolylmethane (DIM)

Absorption
Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) mostly acts via their major metabolite, diindolylmethane (DIM) (may comprise up to a 3 rd of I3C products) and some other metabolites which is often spontaneously produced from the unstable I3C (such as indolo 3,2-b carbazole, a minor constituent). The actual formation of these metabolites involves I3C catalyzing to form reactive indoles which then incorporate with one another to 'build' up a bigger yet stable molecule, DIM being the result of two of these indoles developing.

Phase I Enzyme Interactions
Dietary indole-3-carbinol (I3C), via the metabolite DIM, can improve the weight of the liver regarded as reflective of a basic increase in P450 enzyme creation; this appears to be dose-dependent between low nutritional concentrations (250ppm) up to very high ones (5, 000ppm) with the 2-hydroxylation of estrogen increasing in relation to overall liver weight.
